Cancer day

Faridkot, 4th February 2025(Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Health Department, under the directions of Civil Surgeon Faridkot, Dr. Chandar Shekhar Kakkar, organized an awareness event at the Civil Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Chandar Shekhar Kakkar emphasized that to prevent cancer, one should avoid all forms of substance abuse, including tobacco and alcohol. He stressed the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, consuming a nutritious diet, increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables, and engaging in daily physical exercise and yoga. He further stated that girls above the age of 11 should receive the HPV vaccine to protect against cervical cancer. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of complete immunization for newborns, which helps in the prevention of cancer and other diseases.

Senior Medical Officer Dr. Paramjit Singh Brar provided detailed information on breast and cervical cancer in women. He explained that symptoms such as lumps in the breast, excessive bleeding during or outside of menstruation, and blood in urine or stool could be potential signs of cancer. He urged that if such symptoms appear, individuals should seek immediate medical consultation. He stressed that early detection of cancer is crucial for effective treatment and recommended that individuals above the age of 30 undergo a complete medical check-up at least once a year.

Deputy Mass Media Officer Lakhwinder Kaith shared that under the Punjab Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund, cancer patients are provided free treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh. He also gave detailed information about various health schemes and free treatment services launched by the Health Department for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.

On this occasion, Senior Medical Officer Dr. Paramjit Singh Brar, Deputy Mass Media Officer Sudhir Kumar, Deputy Mass Media Officer Lakhwinder Singh Kaith, Senior Pharmacy Officer Sunil Singla, Nodal Officer for Awareness Activities Block Jand Sahib BE Prabhdeep Singh Chawla, NCD Counselor Manpreet Kaur, and Awareness Assistant Kaushal Kumar were also present.
