.Punjab Government’s Employment Generation and Skill Development Initiative: Aiming to Curb Brain Drain

A Comprehensive Approach to Employment and Entrepreneurship

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has undertaken significant efforts to address youth unemployment and prevent brain drain, focusing on both government employment and skill development. With an emphasis on creating job opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship, the government has implemented a multi-faceted strategy to empower the youth of Punjab.

In the first 33 months of the Mann Government’s tenure, approximately 50,000 regular jobs have been created across various state departments, a major accomplishment. Beyond government positions, over 2.65 lakh candidates have found employment in the private sector through more than 4,725 placement camps held across the state.

The Punjab Skill Development Mission has played a key role in equipping the youth with skills necessary for the modern job market. A total of 64,427 individuals have been trained in various sectors, including automotive machine operation, electrical work, and beauty therapy. As a result, 47,821 have successfully secured employment.

The government has also placed a strong emphasis on self-employment and entrepreneurship through career guidance programs. Over 8.5 lakh candidates have participated in career counseling initiatives, and 1,373 self-employment camps have helped 1.77 lakh applicants secure loans for their businesses.

In addition to these initiatives, the government has prioritized defense service recruitment. Since assuming office, 74 cadets from the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute in SAS Nagar (Mohali) have been commissioned as officers in the Defense Services. Several other cadets have excelled in national merit lists, further establishing the institute’s growing reputation for excellence in training.

Empowering Punjab’s Girls for a Stronger Future

As part of its commitment to gender equality and empowerment, the Punjab Government has made notable strides in providing equal opportunities for women. A new Centre for Training and Employment of Punjab Youth (C-PYTE) will soon be launched in Kapurthala district, specifically aimed at training and employing young women. The facility will be run entirely by women and aims to provide ample opportunities for girls across the state.

The government has also supported female representation in defense services. The establishment of the NDA Preparatory Wing at the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls has paved the way for more women to enter the armed forces. Recently, two female cadets achieved top ranks in the Air Force Academy Merit List, and six others were recommended for commission by the SSBs.

Through these initiatives, the Punjab Government is not only providing jobs but also offering the training, resources, and guidance necessary to turn youth into skilled professionals and entrepreneurs. These efforts are key to combating brain drain and contributing to the future growth and success of Punjab.
