Punjab Becomes First State to Resolve Online Complaints of NRI Punjabis

A Major Step Towards Efficient Grievance Redressal for NRIs
The Punjab Government has made a significant leap by becoming the first state in India to resolve the grievances of Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Punjabis through an online platform. This new facility, launched in December 2024, enables NRIs to register complaints online regarding any issues related to the state of Punjab. The initiative is a part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address the problems and concerns of NRIs in a prompt and efficient manner.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has prioritized the resolution of NRI complaints. In February 2024, the government organized four “NRI Milni” programs, which resulted in the resolution of a significant number of complaints.
The “Online NRI Milni,” introduced by the NRI Department of Punjab, allows overseas Punjabis to present their issues directly to the departmental minister, senior officers, and senior police officials. The online sessions, held in the first week of every month, see many complaints being resolved on the spot. A majority of the complaints are related to the Revenue and Police Departments, while some issues are already being heard in various courts. For complaints concerning specific districts, civil and police officers are instructed to resolve them promptly through telecommunication.
Punjab’s Cabinet Minister for NRI Affairs, S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, emphasized that the Punjab Government has directed Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in all districts to give priority to resolving the complaints of overseas Punjabis. Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioners, district-level officers, along with the concerned departments, are actively working to resolve these complaints.
With this new initiative, the Punjab Government is making strides in improving the responsiveness to NRI issues, ensuring a more efficient and transparent system for resolving grievances.
