Malerkotla, 4th February (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Additional Deputy Commissioner Sukhpreet Singh held a review meeting of the District Environment Committee to assess the implementation of the District Environment Plan with officials from various departments. During the meeting, discussions were held regarding compliance with the decisions of the National Green Tribunal Monitoring Committee.
He directed the concerned department officials to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the National Green Tribunal concerning environmental protection and water conservation. He also instructed all district-level officials to ensure strict implementation of the waste management plan and to take all possible measures to make the city plastic-free.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner reviewed various environmental management aspects in the district, including the cleanliness of polluted areas in urban and rural regions, management of wet and dry waste, solid waste disposal, plastic waste management, maintenance of village ponds, sewage treatment plant operations, public awareness campaigns for waste management and environmental conservation, biomedical and e-waste management, cleaning of water bodies, and prevention of untreated sewage or industrial wastewater discharge.
While reviewing the operations of the STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) in the district, he emphasized that the concerned departments must ensure their proper and full-capacity functioning. He also issued necessary instructions to officials from the Sewerage Board and Pollution Control Board to ensure that the targets set for wastewater treatment plants are met.
Simarpreet Singh, Environmental Engineer of the Punjab Pollution Control Board, conducted the meeting proceedings and stated that, as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal, the entire process of preventing groundwater, air, and environmental pollution will be completed within the stipulated time frame under the action plan.
On this occasion, District Development and Panchayat Officer Rimpi Garg, SDO Water Supply and Sanitation Engineer Rajinder Garg, SDO (PWD) Engineer Balraj Singh, District Epidemiologist Dr. Munir Muhammad, JE Engineer Prince Modi, Senior Industrial Promotion Officer Karandeep Singh, along with other department officials, were present.
