9 March 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Bahrain’s state-owned energy company Bapco Energies has declared force majeure on its oil shipments after an attack linked to Iran struck one of its refinery facilities. The announcement means the company may not be able to fulfill some supply contracts due to circumstances beyond its control.
The decision came after Iranian drone and missile strikes reportedly hit the company’s refinery complex, causing a fire and damaging parts of the facility. Thick smoke was seen rising from the refinery area following the attack.
Force majeure is a legal clause used in contracts that allows companies to temporarily suspend or delay obligations when extraordinary events—such as war, natural disasters, or attacks—prevent normal operations.
Despite the disruption, Bapco Energies said domestic fuel supply in Bahrain remains secure. The company noted that contingency plans are in place to ensure local demand is met and essential energy services continue without interruption.
The refinery targeted in the attack is Bahrain’s main oil processing facility and a key part of the country’s energy infrastructure. Any disruption to its operations could affect oil exports and add further pressure to already volatile global energy markets.
The incident comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia, where attacks on energy infrastructure have raised concerns about potential disruptions to global oil supplies and increased volatility in crude prices.
Summary:
Bahrain’s state oil firm Bapco Energies declared force majeure after an Iranian attack damaged its refinery, potentially disrupting shipments, though officials say domestic fuel supplies remain secure.
