Chandigarh, January 22, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): A new makeshift tractor-trailer, equipped with ultra-modern facilities, has been stationed at Dhabi Gujran village, near Khanauri, to house farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite fast for the past 57 days. Dallewal began receiving medical aid on the 54th day of his fast after the government agreed to hold talks with farm unions on February 14.
The tractor-trailer is designed to provide more comfort and functionality. It has an air-conditioner and glass windows on either side to allow sunlight, addressing a significant shortcoming of his current cubicle, which lacks natural light. A bathroom has also been incorporated, along with arrangements for hot water. Soundproof doors and noise-blocking windows have also been installed.
Farm leaders announced at a press conference that Dallewal would be shifted to the new tractor-trailer on Wednesday afternoon. The area surrounding it was being sanitised and disinfected by a team of experts to maintain bacteria-free environment, they added.
Farm leaders Kaka Singh Kotra and Abhimanyu Kohar reaffirmed that Dallewal’s fast and the farmers’ struggle would continue until their demands were met. Kohar also highlighted the nationwide solidarity shown by farmers in support of Dallewal.
Sarwan Singh Pandher, coordinator of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), announced a plan for the Republic Day protest.
“The January 26 protest aims at showing solidarity with small shopkeepers, traders and businessmen who are being marginalised by big corporate entities operating from big shopping malls,” he said.
Farmers plan to reach the residences of BJP leaders, corporate-owned silos, toll plazas and shopping malls on tractors as part of the Republic Day protest. “Our struggle will continue until our demands are met,” Pandher asserted.
Summary: A specially designed tractor-trailer with modern amenities has been set up to support Dallewal’s fasting protest, ensuring comfort during his protest.
