2 September 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau  :  Actor Ram Kapoor has opened up about his father’s final days and revealed why he felt an unexpected sense of happiness and relief when his father died after battling cancer.

In a recent interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, Kapoor said watching his father suffer was extremely difficult, but his death also meant that his prolonged pain had finally ended.

‘I Was Super Thrilled That His Pain Was Over’

Recalling his father’s death, Kapoor said he was “super thrilled” because his father’s suffering had come to an end.

He explained that he was not happy about losing his father in the conventional sense, but was relieved that the cancer-related pain and suffering were finally over. Kapoor said he was even smiling at the time, reflecting his belief that death had released his father from prolonged suffering.

Witnessing His Father’s Cancer Battle

Kapoor described caring for his father as one of the most difficult experiences of his life.

He recalled seeing his father experience severe pain and hallucinations during the final stages of cancer. Kapoor said he was focused on taking care of him and did not have time to fully process what he was experiencing emotionally.

‘He Died Like a King’

The actor said his father was able to die on his own terms and that he helped him fulfil what he wanted during his final days.

Kapoor described this as one of the most meaningful experiences of his life, saying that although it was extremely difficult, it changed his perspective on life, death and family.

How the Experience Changed Kapoor

Kapoor said the experience transformed his thinking and made him more accepting of death.

He argued that people often avoid discussing death, wills and what they want at the end of their lives because they behave as though death will never happen.

For Kapoor, being present with his father during the final stage helped remove some of the fear surrounding death.

A Different Perspective on Grief

Kapoor’s comments highlight the complicated emotions that can accompany the death of someone who has endured a prolonged and painful illness.

Grief does not always appear as immediate sadness. In cases involving long-term suffering, relatives can simultaneously experience loss, relief and gratitude that the person’s pain has ended.

Kapoor Says He Can Now Talk About Death Openly

The actor said his changed outlook has even affected how he discusses death with his family.

He suggested that accepting death as a natural part of life has made it easier for him to have conversations about it rather than treating the subject as something that should be avoided.

A Transformative Family Experience

Kapoor said that caring for his father through his illness ultimately became an experience that changed him deeply.

Although he initially did not know whether he would have the emotional strength to handle the situation, he said his father believed he could do it. Kapoor later came to see that period as one of the most significant experiences of his life.

Why His Remarks Have Drawn Attention

Kapoor’s description of feeling “happy” and “super thrilled” after his father’s death may sound unusual without context.

However, his comments were specifically about his father’s release from severe suffering after cancer, rather than expressing happiness at the loss itself. His explanation centred on compassion, acceptance and the end of prolonged pain.
