Rupnagar, February 12 (Punjab khabarnama) : Mr. Manjinder Singh, District Judge-cum-Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, Mohali paid a surprise visit to District Jail Rupnagar today.
On this occasion, Member Secretary Palsa inspected the barracks and interacted with the prisoners of male and female wards. He inspected the jail hospital, Langar Hall and Legal Aid Clinic. On this occasion, he took a special look at the ongoing NALSA Pan India Restoring the Youth campaign.
This campaign has been conducted from 25th January 2024 in all the jails of Punjab under the able supervision of Member Secretary Palsa. The campaign is running smoothly at Rupnagar under the able leadership of Ms. Ramesh Kumari, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar.
The campaign aims to identify potential juveniles in adult prisons and shift them to observation homes if they are found to be juveniles on the date of the offence.
Member Secretary Palsa addressed the jail inmates and apprised them about child welfare laws. He also addressed potential minors and inmates. He directed the jail vesting lawyers to file their applications if any person claims to be a minor.
On this occasion Hon’ble Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority distributed spectacles to 28 prisoners. During the last month, District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar organized a special eye camp for prisoners at District Jail Rupnagar. A list of prisoners who needed spectacles due to low vision was prepared and spectacles were manufactured and distributed today with the support of ACCP Cops NGO. Books were distributed to other inmates of Janana Ward.
While talking to reporters, Mr. Manjinder Singh, Member Secretary, PALSA said that he has visited District Jail Rupnagar on the competent instructions of Mr. Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Hon’ble Chief Justice Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, PALSA.
Their aim is to review the Pan India campaign and ensure that no one below the age of 18 years remains in an adult jail. If a person is found to be under 18 years of age, his application should be filed before the Juvenile Justice Board or the concerned courts. He also informed that in case of any information the Legal Services Authority can be contacted at toll free number 15100 at any time.
On this occasion Mrs. Himanshi Galhotra, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar, Mr. Anmoljit Singh, Deputy Jail Superintendent, Mr. Rajbir Singh Roy, Chief LADC and Mr. Ashish Kumar, Assistant LADC, Rupnagar were present.
