Batala, February 12 (Punjab khabarnama) : Under the leadership of Principal Rajdeep Singh Ball and the supervision of Jasbir Singh, in-charge of Chemical Department, a basic fire safety awareness camp was organized for the students at Government Polytechnical College.
On this occasion, Harbakhsh Singh and Harpreet Singh from the Civil Defense Battalion arrived specially.
Inaugurating the seminar, Eng. Jasbir Singh said that it is very important for the students to be aware of basic fire safety and the aim of this seminar is to reduce accidents and make them aware of how to deal with the situation.
After this, Harbakhsh Singh said that every fire extinguisher should be put through a primary fire safety exercise before being refilled after a year so that in case of any fire, it can be controlled on the spot. A small accident does not take long to become a big one due to lack of practice. Explaining the use of fire extinguishers by Gur Pass (PA-S-S), he said that from P to Pull i.e. pull the pin from A to Am i.e. aim at the solid towards the fire S to Squeeze i.e. press the handle and from S to Swipe That is, when the fire is on, shake it (right-left). Remember that the wind shaft should be at your back so that the chemical powder does not fall on you. It should be used very carefully and wisely on occasion. Keep your grip on the cylinder while extinguishing the fire, if it falls on the ground for some reason, it can run like a missile and cause destruction. Students were also given practice in using fire extinguishers.
In the end, Jasbir Singh thanked the visiting experts and hoped that the students would put the information they got on this occasion into practice at the time of emergency.
