Urging the farmers to cultivate PR 126 of paddy, Dr. Amrik Singh said that during the last few days some farmers are being asked on social media not to cultivate the PR 126 variety of paddy, which is affecting the farmers. should not be He said that PR 126 variety is the only variety in Punjab which is playing an important role in preventing the groundwater level from going down further and in proper management of stubble.
He said that after the damage to the paddy crop due to floods last year, the affected farmers planted PR 126 variety and it gave a good yield despite being late, due to which the loss to the farmers was reduced. He said that this variety was released by the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in the year 2017 after long experience and it is being cultivated by farmers in a large area in Punjab. He said that the fodder of PR 126 will be bought by the fodder procurement agencies and farmers need not be in a dilemma. He said that sowing of this type of paneer can be done from May 25 to June 20 as recommended by Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana. He said that the age of PR type paneer should not be more than 25 days at the time of sowing and get more yield. Therefore, the sowing of cheese should be done in rows.
Jagjit Singh, former sarpanch of Kameana village, who was present on this occasion, said that last year, PR 126 variety was cultivated in two acres on the recommendation of the agriculture officials. He appealed to the farmers not to rely on any kind of propaganda against this pro-farmer type of paddy and to sow maximum area under this type. Aarti leader and sheller owner Barjinder Garg appealed to the farmers that in the interest of the sheller industry, the farmers should not delay in planting the PR 126 variety, but the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has recommended sowing of paneeri from May 25 to June 20 and sowing of paneeri. It should be done 25 days after sowing so that the moisture content of the grains remains at the specified 17 percent at the time of ripening.
