18 Aug 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly used the period of relative calm following a June understanding with the United States to strengthen its military capabilities and prepare for a potentially wider confrontation with the US and Israel.
Missile Production and Accuracy Increased
According to a Wall Street Journal report cited by Iranian and Arab officials, Iran accelerated missile and drone production, while working to improve missile accuracy during the ceasefire period.
IRGC spokesman Brig Gen Hossein Mohebbi reportedly said the force had taken full advantage of the calm to enhance its capabilities.
Iran Prepares for Possible Escalation
Iranian military planners have reportedly developed options including pre-emptive strikes, sabotage of undersea internet cables in the Persian Gulf and attacks on strategic targets.
The report says the IRGC also expanded coordination with allied armed groups in Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon.
Kuwait Ground Operation Raises Concern
One of the more serious scenarios reportedly under consideration is a potential ground operation in Kuwait.
Kuwait had previously said its security forces intercepted six alleged IRGC personnel who had used a rented fishing boat to reach a Kuwaiti island.
Iranian figures have also reportedly discussed the possibility of raids through southern Iraq if Washington threatens strategic Iranian assets such as Kharg Island.
IRGC Gains Greater Military Role
The ceasefire period has reportedly coincided with a broader restructuring of Iran’s security and military apparatus.
The IRGC has gained greater oversight of Iran’s regular armed forces, while experienced military and security figures have been placed in senior positions.
Regional Tensions Remain High
The reported preparations come amid continuing tensions involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Iran has also strengthened internal security measures as economic pressure and the risk of renewed domestic unrest remain concerns for its leadership.
What Happens Next?
The reported preparations suggest that Tehran views the current period of relative calm not necessarily as the end of the confrontation, but as an opportunity to improve its military readiness.
However, the reported plans are based on intelligence assessments and statements cited by the Wall Street Journal; they do not establish that Iran has decided to carry out a specific ground operation in Kuwait.
