8 july 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has appealed to residents across the state to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying that accurate voter records are essential for ensuring smooth access to various government welfare schemes and public services.
Addressing the public, Mann urged eligible citizens to verify and update their details during the SIR exercise. He emphasized that maintaining correct records would help strengthen the electoral process while ensuring that beneficiaries continue to receive government services without unnecessary complications.
Appeal to Update Voter Details
The Chief Minister encouraged voters to cooperate with election officials during the revision process by submitting the required documents and ensuring that their names and personal information are correctly reflected in the electoral rolls.
He said the exercise is aimed at improving the accuracy of voter lists by removing duplicate or ineligible entries and adding the names of eligible citizens who may have been left out.
Link to Welfare Schemes
Mann stressed that updated records make it easier for the government to deliver welfare benefits efficiently and ensure that eligible citizens can access various public schemes without administrative hurdles.
He urged people not to ignore the verification process and to complete the required formalities within the prescribed timeline.
Importance of the SIR Exercise
The Special Intensive Revision is conducted periodically to update electoral rolls before elections. During the exercise, election officials verify voter information, include newly eligible voters, delete the names of deceased or shifted voters, and correct errors in existing records.
Officials have appealed to citizens to cooperate fully with booth-level officers and provide accurate information during the verification process.
Government’s Call for Public Participation
The Punjab government has urged all eligible voters, especially first-time voters and those who have recently changed their residence, to participate in the revision process.
According to the Chief Minister, broad public participation will help ensure transparent elections and strengthen democratic institutions while improving the delivery of government services.
Ensuring Inclusive Governance
Mann said that every eligible citizen should be included in the electoral rolls and encouraged people to spread awareness among family members, neighbours, and friends about the importance of the SIR exercise.
The appeal comes as authorities continue efforts to update voter records across Punjab ahead of future electoral processes.
