1 May 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau  : Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has increased the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), reflecting continued pressure from rising global oil prices.

The revision comes as Brent Crude Oil trades at elevated levels, driven by geopolitical tensions and concerns over supply disruptions in key oil-producing regions. Higher crude prices directly impact fuel costs in India, which relies heavily on imports.

For households, the LPG price hike means increased monthly expenses, especially for those dependent on cooking gas cylinders. While subsidies may cushion the impact for some consumers, the overall burden on household budgets is expected to rise.

The increase in ATF prices is likely to affect the aviation sector. Airlines may face higher operational costs, which could translate into increased airfares for passengers. Industry experts say fuel accounts for a significant portion of airline expenses, making price fluctuations particularly impactful.

Officials indicated that the price adjustments are part of routine revisions based on international benchmarks and currency movements. The depreciation of the rupee against the US dollar has also contributed to higher import costs.

The development comes at a time when inflation concerns are already mounting. Rising fuel prices tend to have a cascading effect on transportation and logistics, potentially pushing up the cost of goods and services.

Market analysts note that unless crude prices ease, fuel costs in India may remain under pressure in the near term. Any escalation in geopolitical tensions could further tighten supply and keep prices elevated.

The government is closely monitoring the situation, balancing the need to manage inflation with the realities of global energy markets. Policy measures, including subsidies or tax adjustments, may be considered depending on market conditions.

For now, consumers and industries alike are bracing for the impact of higher fuel prices, as global uncertainties continue to influence domestic markets.

Summary

Indian Oil Corporation raised LPG and jet fuel prices amid rising Brent crude levels, increasing household and airline costs, with inflation concerns growing as global oil market uncertainties continue to impact India.
