9 september 2024 : On Monday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, addressed the Indian diaspora in Dallas, Texas, and claimed that the fear of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has diminished since the recent Lok Sabha election results. Gandhi noted that in his first parliamentary speech after the elections, he referenced Abhayamudra, a symbol of fearlessness found in Indian religions, which he believes the BJP fails to understand. He asserted that the election results revealed a significant shift, with people in India no longer intimidated by the BJP or Modi. Gandhi emphasized that these changes are major accomplishments of the Indian people and democracy, rather than of himself or the Congress party.

Today, the Supreme Court will hear the case concerning the rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra are scheduled to review the case at 10:30 am. The Centre has called on the Supreme Court to address the West Bengal government’s alleged failure to support the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for hospital security. The Union Home Ministry’s application accuses the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of inadequate cooperation and suggests that this points to a larger issue. The Centre has requested the Court to initiate contempt proceedings against state officials if they do not comply with the court’s orders, citing “wilful non-compliance.”
