In its drive against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against Assistant Labour Commissioner, Hoshiarpur, Harpreet Singh (PCS) and Computer Operator Alka Sharma posted in his office for accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. In this case, Computer Operator Alka Sharma was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 and has been sent to jail on 14 days judicial remand by the court. The other accused, Harpreet Singh PCS, is absconding.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that this case has been registered on the complaint of Rohit Chauhan, a shopkeeper of Kashmiri Bazaar, Hoshiarpur. The complainant approached the Bureau and told that he runs a goldsmith shop and he had got his shop renewed, for which he received a notice from the office of Assistant Labor Commissioner, Hoshiarpur. When he went to the office of Assistant Labor Commissioner in this regard, there the computer operator Alka Sharma told him that you will have to pay a heavy fine, but I will get this notice quashed by talking to my officer, Assistant Labor Commissioner Harpreet Singh.

The spokesperson said that the complainant told that at that time Alka Sharma went to Harpreet Singh’s room with the notice and after some time she called the complainant inside, where Harpreet Singh (PCS) demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant in lieu of filing the notice. The complainant recorded the conversation during the demand of bribe, which he presented as evidence to the Vigilance Bureau. The spokesperson said that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a team of Vigilance Bureau was formed and a trap was laid with the complainant, government and government witnesses, during which Alka Sharma, computer operator, was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant, but Assistant Labor Commissioner Harpreet Singh was not present in the office at that time.

He said that in this case a case has been registered against both the employees under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Jalandhar Range Police Station of the Bureau. Raids are being conducted at the hideouts of the accused Harpreet Singh (PCS), Assistant Labor Commissioner, Hoshiarpur, to arrest him. Further investigation in this case is underway.
