September 10, 2024: An important meeting was held under the leadership of Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Gurnam Singh of Sri Muktsar Sahib to review the progress of agricultural work for the benefit of farmers, following the directives issued by Punjab’s Agriculture Minister, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian.
During the meeting, updates on the current status of summer crops, particularly cotton, were discussed. Block agriculture officers reported that continuous surveys of cotton fields are being conducted in Sri Muktsar Sahib district. The condition of the cotton crop is satisfactory, and recommendations for pest control sprays and fertilizers from PAU Ludhiana are being provided to farmers.
The Chief Agriculture Officer instructed the agriculture officers to ensure farmers receive maximum information about government schemes for agricultural benefit and address any issues related to farming. Officers were also directed to periodically check agricultural input vendors to ensure farmers are provided with quality inputs.
Additionally, officers were advised to post lists of farmers who received subsidies for agricultural machinery for paddy management in common village locations to ensure that more farmers benefit from these tools.
The meeting also included an appeal to farmers to plant more trees around tubewells in their fields to contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.
