SAS Nagar, May 2 (Punjab Khabarnama) : In view of upcoming Lok Sabha Sabha Elections, the first round of randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) was held in the presence of political representatives, at the District Administrative Complex, here today. The randomisation was held in the presence of District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Mrs Aashika Jain and representatives of several political parties.

Deputy Commissioner said that a total of 825 polling booths have been set up in the district on which EVMs as well as VVPAT machines would be installed as per the number of this allocation. She said that EVMs and VVPAT machines equal to the number of polling booths were randomised today, besides keeping reserved additional 20 percent CU, 20 percent BU and 30 percent VVPAT that can be used in case any machine malfunctions. As per today’s randomisation process, 990 BUs, 990 CUs and 1072 VVPATs have been handed over to the AROs of 052-Kharar, 053- SAS Nagar (Mohali) and 112-Derabassi. Kharar has been allocated 334 BUs, 334 CUs and 361 VVPATs against 278 Booths, Mohali has been allocated 301 BUs, 301 CUs, 326 VVPATs against 251 booths while Derabassi has been given 355 BUs, 355 CUs and 1072 VVPATs against 296 Booths, added Mrs Jain.

She said that after today’s randomisation, the EVMs and VVPATs would be shifted by Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) to the strong rooms in their respective constituencies. Randomisation process of EVM and VVPAT machines was shown to the representatives of various political parties and they were also briefed of the next level randomization that would be held at ARO level, at a later stage.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included ADC (G) Viraj S Tidke, SDM-cum-ARO Dipankar Garg, Election Tehsildar Sanjay Kumar, DIO NIC Mrs Anu Gupta and representative of the various political parties .
