Amritsar 16 March 2024 (Punjab khabarnama): Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arun Palli, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana alongwith Ms. Harpreet Kaur Randhawa, District & Sessions Judge, Amritsar has visited the central jail, Amritsar in order to inspect the jail. During this visit His Lordship inaugurated the Video Conferencing unit where 6 video conferencing rooms have been established for facilitating the appearance of jail inmates in the courts on account of their cases. With this accused/convict could be produced anywhere in India easily in connection with his case. It will kill the time of courts proceedings and it will help for speedy disposal of the pending trials in the courts. It will also help to curtail the burden on the police department to provide the police guard to produces the accused physically in the courts.
Then his lordship visited the ladies barracks, where lordship interacted with each lady inmates and heard their grievances and ensure them to provide every kind of legal aid in connection with their cases pending in the courts. His lordship instructed the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar to ensure that every kind of basic amenities/items of hygiene are being provided to the ladies inmates and the minor children accompanying them in the jails. After that his lordship visited the crèche, library, Langar Hall (Kitchen for inmates) and Legal Aid Clinic. Directions were issued to the Legal Aid Defense Counsels to put efforts to interact with each prisoners in routine to aware them about the status of their cases and wherever required necessary legal assistance be provided to them.
After that lordship reached the District Courts, Amritsar where his lordship visited the District Bar Association Amritsar.
His Lordship also visited Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, Amritsar and interacted with the Lawyers at Legal Aid Defense Counsel System. His Lordship enquired them about their performance in the courts. As per information given by Chief of Legal Aid Defense Counsel system effectively functioning in the District Courts Complex, Amritsar. It was also told by the Chief LADCS that 01 counsel is regularly visiting the Central Jail, Amritsar, where they interact with the Jail Inmates and provide them necessary legal assistance related to their court cases. They are providing them legal aid at every stage of the cases i.e. Pre-Arrest, Remand, Bail Etc.
Construction work of the Vulnerable Witness Deposition Complex is also going on at the top of the ADR Centre.
Lordship also inspected the newly constructed Record Room of the District Courts, Amritsar and after that inspected the courts at District Courts Complex, Amritsar.
