Chandigarh, March 10 (Punjab Khabarnama)- Punjab’s Finance, Planning, Excise, and Taxation Minister, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, announced a substantial enforcement action under the ‘Bill Liyao Inam Pao’ scheme, imposing a total penalty of Rs. 5.16 crore on vendors for invalid bills. Notably, Rs. 4.01 crore has already been recovered, showcasing the state’s commitment to tax compliance.

Minister Cheema highlighted the scheme’s success, with 1403 winners receiving prizes worth Rs. 56.58 lakh. Launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on August 21, 2023, the scheme encourages consumers to upload their bills via the ‘Mera Bill App,’ garnering a robust public response.

Out of 65,443 bills uploaded, 1,512 notices were issued for discrepancies, and 642 have been resolved, showcasing the active public role in enhancing tax revenue systems. The ‘Mera Bill App’ also led to 108 new GST registrations, indicating positive trends in tax compliance.

Advocate Cheema reiterated the scheme’s significance, urging Punjab residents to participate actively. He emphasized retaining purchase bills not only supports the state’s tax infrastructure but also provides a chance to win monthly prizes up to Rs. 10,000.

The minister clarified that bills for specific categories, including petroleum products, liquor, out-of-state purchases, and B2B transactions, are not eligible. Additionally, only bills from the last month are considered for the draw, ensuring fairness and effectiveness in the scheme.
