Chandigarh 19 June 2024 Punjab Khabarnama : On the third day of their continuing special operation against drugs and anti-social elements, Punjab police on Tuesday conducted an intensive checking of the two-wheelers and four wheelers totalling 12,040 at police nakas installed across the state in which 603 were challaned and 35 impounded.
The police teams also checked — from 11 am to 3 pm simultaneously in all 28 police districts — 4,236 suspicious persons during the operation.
Special DGP (law and order) Arpit Shukla said that all the commissioners of police and SSPs were asked to put one strong naka under the supervision of an inspector-rank officer in the jurisdiction of each police station and conduct intensive checking of all motorcycles and other vehicles.
They were also asked to round up suspicious people for their verification.
Besides checking the vehicles, police teams also verified the registration numbers of vehicles using the Vahan mobile app, he added.
The special DGP said that as many as 372 well-coordinated strong nakas involving over 2,684 cops were set up under the supervision of inspectors and DSPs.
Drone, heroin recovered
Border Security Force (BSF) troops, in collaboration with Punjab police, recovered a drone and one packet of heroin from near Roranwala village close to the India-Pakistan international border.
A BSF spokesperson said on Tuesday that following a tip-off BSF and Punjab police carried out a search operation and found the contrabands.
The recovered drone has been identified as a China-made DJI Mavic 3 classic.
