June 6 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Some big leaders contesting from 2 Lok Sabha seats under Mohali district, including 12 candidates contesting from small parties or as independent candidates, could not get their deposits back. Big faces contesting from Sri Anandpur Sahib parliamentary seat, including Shiromani Akali Dal leader Prem Singh Chandumajra, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Jasvir Singh Garhi, Shiromani Akali Dal (Simranjit Singh Mann Group) party leader Kaushal Pal Singh Mann, could not save their deposits. Similarly, Zirakpur resident Shiromani Akali Dal leader N.K. Sharma, Shiromani Akali Dal (Simranjit Singh Mann Group) party leader Mohinder Pal Singh, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Jagjit Singh, who were contesting from Patiala seat, could not get their deposits back.

Account of candidates who got less votes in the election

Kiran, who contested from Hindustan Shakti Sena Party, got 515 votes, Zirakpur resident Yograj Sahota contested from Revolutionary Socialist Party. He got 930 votes. Deepak Sharma, a resident of Kurali, also contested as an independent candidate and was successful in getting 1012 votes. Megh Raj of Gobindgarh village of Mohali also contested as an independent candidate but he got 1430 votes. Advocate Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Phase-6, Mohali, got 1600 votes. He also stood as an independent candidate. Sunaina, a resident of Padch village of Mohali Kharar, contested the election from the Indian National Dal Party and was able to get 1640 votes. Daljit Singh Sahni, a resident of Mohali Zirakpur Nabha, also contested the election under the banner of Bharatiya Jawan Kisan Party and got 1715 votes. Simple Kumar, a resident of Jagatpura village of Mohali, stood as an independent candidate and got 2962 votes. Labh Singh Pal, a resident of Derabassi, contested the Lok Sabha election for Patiala seat as an independent candidate and was able to get 1443 votes. Ranjit Singh, a resident of Zirakpur Baltana, contested the election on behalf of All India Parivar Party. 1967 votes were cast for them.

To save the deposit, one has to get 6th part of the votes cast.
For example, if 1 lakh votes are cast on a seat, then to save the deposit, each candidate has to get more than 6th part i.e. more than 16 thousand 666 votes. Otherwise, the deposit is forfeited. Here, it should be mentioned that for the Patiala seat, people of Derabassi Zirakpur voted and for the Sri Anandpur Sahib seat, people of Mohali Kharar voted. A total of 11 lakh 49 thousand 417 votes were cast on the Patiala seat. 10 lakh 73 thousand 572 votes were cast on the Sri Anandpur Sahib seat. The deposit amount for the Lok Sabha elections is Rs 25000. This fee is for the general category. Whereas for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST), the fee is Rs 12,500.
