May 6 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Anxiety is the condition where a person is constantly worried about daily activities. Some of the most common symptoms of anxiety are nausea, headache, thumping heart and trembling. Anxiety also makes us postpone our tasks because of the fear of failure. “It’s easy to think you’re just being lazy, or struggling to manage your time well, but there is often a deeper process happening inside when you choose to procrastinate. When you’re confronted with a task that needs to be done, you’re also confronted with underlying emotions and limiting beliefs operating under the surface,” wrote Therapist Carrie Howard.

1. We often feel scared that we will not get the desired outcome if we do a task – hence we try to postpone the task for later.

2. The fear of failure is triggered by anxiety. Anxiety makes us feel that we will definitely fail at what we do. Hence, we procrastinate.

3. We doubt our abilities and think that we are not adequately capable of finishing the task at hand. This also harms our self-confidence.

4. We fear that we will be judged or criticised for our quality of work. This further makes us feel that we are not good enough.

5. When we think of the amount of effort involved in doing the task, we feel anxious of taking it up in the first place.
