Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department organized a farmer awareness camp in village Virewal Kalan with the support of Ratan Tata Trust
Faridkot, April 13 (Punjab Khabarnama) : Dr. Amrik Singh, Chief Agricultural Officer, Faridkot District Faridkot to meet the target of pollution free during the year 2024-25 by RGR Cell (Ratan Tata Trust) under Prana Project with the support of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department in the district. Kisan awareness camp was organized in Verewal Kalan village of Block Faridkot to revive the wheat crop and encourage the farmers not to set fire to wheat fields.
Addressing the farmers present in the camp, Dr. Amrik Singh said that in the past, it has been observed that during wheat harvesting, the wheat crop or the grain of wheat has been damaged due to loose electric wires, sparks from the transfer of electricity, smoldering cigarettes thrown by the laborers or due to any other negligence. A fire breaks out due to which the crops are damaged and the agricultural machinery, animals and people are also severely damaged. He said that if the electricity wires are loose above the fields, they should be brought to the attention of the officials of the electricity department and the wires should be cut.
He said that wheat should be harvested from a dead area around the power transformer and separated. He said that water should be kept in the tanks and spray pumps to avoid any fire accident. He said that If a fire occurs somewhere, then the officials of the fire department should be immediately contacted. They should ask them to harvest the wheat crop only when it is fully ripe so that there is no problem in the market. He said that the goal of zero burning during the year 2024-25 has been falsified by Deputy Commissioner Faridkot Mr. Vineet Kumar to make district Faridkot pollution-free, for the fulfillment of which full cooperation of farmers and farmers’ organizations is needed.
He said that after harvesting wheat, the residue left after making straw should be plowed in the field and planted with paddy. Arshdeep Singh, field assistant, talking about the importance of crop diversity, said that under paddy-wheat crop cycle in Malwa region. In order to reduce the acreage, the soft crop can play an important role. He appealed to the farmers to destroy the weeds lying in the villages to prevent insects, especially the pink borer, before sowing soft fruit.
A large number of farmers including Arshdeep Singh Field Assistant, Lovepreet Singh, Sukhwant Singh, Jaswant Singh, Jagjit Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Rajinder Singh, Kuldeep Singh were present on this occasion.
