Punjab 09 May 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann convened a cabinet meeting today. During the meeting, the Punjab government made 15 crucial decisions, which were shared by CM Mann in a press conference. He stated that various decisions had been taken across different departments, along with major announcements.
CM Mann shared that the Punjab government would deploy an anti-drone system, and the cabinet has approved the purchase of this system. He emphasized that the border areas would be equipped with the anti-drone system to destroy any incoming drones from Pakistan before they could take flight.
The Chief Minister also directed ministers to visit shops and markets to ensure that there is no shortage of food grains or oil in Punjab. He urged people not to panic, stating that the Farishtey Scheme would be extended during these stressful times. He added that he is in constant contact with the Deputy Commissioners of all districts. The Farishtey Scheme will cover not just road injuries but also provide free treatment for casualties from war or attacks by terrorists.
He reassured the public that there is no need to panic, as everything is under control. He mentioned that missile fragments had been found in the fields but assured that the situation was being managed. CM Mann stated that he had assigned ministers to border areas to prevent hoarding and black marketing. He made it clear that any hoarding or black marketing in border districts would not be tolerated, and strict legal action would be taken if any complaints are received.
He further clarified that there is no shortage of essential supplies like ration and petrol in Punjab. In another significant decision, he announced that there would be a complete ban on fireworks in Chandigarh, and no fireworks would be allowed at any gathering, including religious events. These orders would remain in effect until July 7.
CM Mann also informed that jammers would be installed in 13 districts, including Goindwal Sahib, Patiala, Bathinda, Sangrur, Faridkot, and Muktasar, to ensure security.
He mentioned the “Rangla Punjab” initiative and stated that anyone willing to cooperate with the government can do so. He also discussed the MSP (Minimum Support Price) purchase for maize crops and said that the government is in contact with IIT Roorkee to monitor illegal mining activities. CM Mann announced the reimplementation of the Old Pension Scheme under the 2014 guidelines.
He assured that he is in touch with the Deputy Commissioners of all districts and that the Punjab Police, along with BSF, is working in full coordination. He confirmed that all law enforcement officers are deployed in the border areas. He emphasized that his office is receiving real-time updates, and the government will provide any assistance needed from the army to handle border security.
CM Mann concluded by stating that Punjab will protect its country, its religion, and its water resources.
