S.A.S Nagar, March 27, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Geetika Singh held a special meeting today at the District Administrative Complex with the District Transport Department and District Road Safety Committee to discuss road safety measures. During the meeting, the ADC instructed officials to prioritize fixing black spots (accident-prone areas) on major roads in the district, which have been causing difficulties for the public.
Providing details about the meeting, the ADC stated that the district administration is fully alert to prevent road accidents. To strengthen road safety, the newly launched City Surveillance and Traffic Management System has been implemented. Instructions have been issued to the Municipal Corporation and GMADA to coordinate with the police in ensuring the installation of necessary traffic signs, such as zebra crossings, stop lines, and speed limit indicators.
Furthermore, officials from NHAI, GMADA, PWD (B&R), and the Municipal Corporation have been directed to immediately fix black spots (accident-prone areas) in the district.
The ADC also emphasized the removal of unauthorized road cuts and strict monitoring of illegal street vendors, encroachments, and wrong parking near roads. Additionally, the public was informed about the “Scheme for Grant of Award to the Good Samaritan,” under which individuals helping accident victims will be rewarded with ₹2,000 by the government (Farishtey Scheme).
Ensuring School Bus Safety
During the meeting, the ADC stressed that school buses must comply with government safety guidelines to ensure children’s safety. Bus drivers and lady attendants should be trained under the Safe School Transport Scheme, ensuring proper maintenance, safe driving practices, and adherence to traffic rules. Additionally, all school buses should be checked for the presence of CCTV cameras, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
The ADC also directed that schools must educate students about traffic rules and road safety.
