Chandigarh, January 4, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Bathing in cold weather is no less than a challenge. In the winters, people start shivering at the sight of cold water and use hot water for bathing. Many people take hot showers, which not only harm the skin but can also negatively affect fertility. Bathing in hot water or sitting in a hot water tub for a long time may provide relief from a cold, but unknowingly, you may be causing serious harm to your health. Experts recommend that men should avoid hot water on their genital area.
According to a report from Harvard Health, the temperature of a man’s testicles is about 4 degrees Celsius lower than the rest of the body. This helps in better sperm production and maintains reproductive health. When hot water is applied to the testicles, the temperature increases, which negatively impacts sperm production and the testosterone hormone. As a result, men’s fertility may decrease. Scientists suggest that even a slight increase of 1-2 degrees in the testicles’ temperature can cause significant damage to male fertility.
Experts also suggest that using hot water tubs, gold baths, and taking hot showers can increase the temperature of sperm cells, causing the sperm’s function to be disturbed. Regular bathing in hot water may reduce a man’s reproductive ability and cause problems in having children. Ayurveda also advises against applying hot water to a man’s private parts, as it may cause various issues. Even if you are taking a hot shower, it is better to wash your testicles with normal water to avoid overheating their cells and endangering fertility.
In winter, to boost fertility, individuals should adopt a healthy lifestyle and eat nutritious food. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help increase fertility. Moreover, the use of alcohol and cigarettes can damage reproductive health, so it is advisable to avoid them. Excessive stress also affects fertility. Avoiding stress is crucial, and regular exercise helps maintain overall body health. If you face any issues, consult a doctor.
