A late goal from Ecuador international winger Gonzalo Plata saw Flamengo win their fifth Copa do Brasil title with a 1-0 win over Atletico Mineiro.
The result at the Arena MRV gave the Rio de Janeiro giants a 4-1 aggregate victory, following a 3-1 first-leg victory in Rio de Janeiro last week.
In the opening minutes, Arascetta set up Gerson, whose shot forced Everson to make a sharp save. The match was again tied as both teams battled it out in midfield. At 13, Hulk’s powerful free kick was saved in two attempts by Rossi. Moments later, Michael fed Gabi, but Lynko deflected his dangerous shot.
Before the 20th minute, Hulk unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box, but Rossi made a brilliant save. Soon after, Everton Araujo had an effort from distance, but Everson pushed it for a corner. At 36′, Arasqueta was fouled by Lynco, who received a yellow for stopping a counterattack. Atlético-MG had chances late with aerial balls, but Flamengo’s defense held firm to keep it level at half-time.
After the break, play became more competitive in midfield, with both teams looking to get the better of possession. At 7′, Rossi found Bruno Henrique on the move for a quick goal kick, which finished for another save by Everson. In contrast to the start of the second half, Atlético-MG began to put more pressure on Flamengo, mainly with aerial plays, which created more threats for Mes Querido’s goal.
