Senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin is hoping to leave his mark on Bangladesh’s cricket history after joining the team until next year’s Champions Trophy.
Salahuddin’s contract coincides with the tenure of head coach Phil Simmons. He has previously worked as an assistant coach with the Bangladesh team from 2006 to 2010.
With the West Indies next Test series, four-time BPL winning coach Salahuddin with Comilla Victorians has started preparations with the Test players in Dhaka while the team is in Sharjah for the ODIs against Afghanistan. He will travel to the Caribbean with the Test players on Monday.
“I think it is the right time (to work in the Bangladesh team). I may not be in coaching for much longer, maybe another four or five years. Helping other generations of cricketers in my long coaching career is very important. It will be good – it won’t be right if I know everything but can’t light the lamp, if I can do this job properly, it will help the team. I still have a lot of time until the Champions Trophy , i May not be able to make a dramatic change, but I’ll be happy if I say something,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Salahuddin as saying.
“My role may be different this time. I have to understand the head coach’s philosophy of how he wants to run the team. I have to help him. I hope our guys get a little bit more confidence. I will too. Look at their communication with foreign coaches,” he added.
