25 September 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : The Chandigarh Police chargesheet in the Sector 11 medical store murder case has alleged that the shooters mistakenly identified cashier Jankidas as their intended target and killed him during a daylight attack.
Jankidas, who worked as a cashier at Kumar Brothers Medical Store, was shot dead on June 13. The chargesheet names nine accused in connection with the case.
Target Was Allegedly a Medical Store Owner
According to the chargesheet, the shooters had allegedly been instructed to target one of the men running the medical store.
Police said gangster Goldy Dhillon allegedly provided the shooters with the shop’s location and a blurry photograph, along with a description of the person they were supposed to identify.
The description reportedly included a man wearing spectacles and another taller man wearing a gold chain and bracelet.
First Recce Failed to Identify Target
The accused allegedly visited the medical store before the murder to conduct reconnaissance.
They reportedly purchased painkillers during the visit but were unable to confidently identify the intended target because the photograph and description were unclear, according to the chargesheet.
Jankidas Was Allegedly Misidentified
On June 13, the accused allegedly returned to the Sector 11 market.
According to the chargesheet, one of the shooters identified the person sitting at the cash counter as matching the description of the intended target. The accused then allegedly opened fire at close range, killing Jankidas.
Earlier police accounts had described the murder as a planned contract killing, with investigators saying the victim had been identified and surveilled before the attack. The chargesheet’s account now indicates that the shooters may have mistaken Jankidas for the intended target.
Nine People Named in Chargesheet
Chandigarh Police have named nine accused in the chargesheet.
Two alleged shooters, Sunny Mehra and Aryan Sharma, were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir on June 17. Police had earlier said the duo were injured in an encounter while allegedly attempting to escape custody.
Money and Weapons Allegedly Arranged
The chargesheet alleges that the accused were provided with weapons, ammunition, clothing and cash as part of the operation.
Investigators say a man identified as Khan allegedly supplied two pistols and ₹50,000 in Tarn Taran, while another ₹1 lakh was allegedly collected in Zirakpur before the shooting.
Gang Links Under Investigation
Police have alleged links between the murder plot and individuals associated with gangster networks.
The chargesheet refers to alleged communications involving Goldy Dhillon and Rana Dhillon, while an intermediary allegedly connected the accused with a person identified as Rohit Kumar, alias Makhan, who was lodged in a Jammu jail.
Shooters Allegedly Fled After Attack
After the shooting, the accused allegedly fled the Sector 11 market on a motorcycle.
According to the chargesheet, they later abandoned the motorcycle, changed their clothes in Kajheri and contacted Goldy Dhillon using Wi-Fi at a local shop. The alleged weapons were subsequently hidden in a forested area near Kajheri.
Victim Had No Known Role in Alleged Plot
The latest chargesheet account suggests that Jankidas was not the person the shooters had allegedly been sent to kill.
The case therefore raises questions about how the shooters identified their target and why the available description led them to the cashier.
Investigation Continues
The chargesheet represents the police’s allegations at the investigation stage. The accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The case has involved CCTV analysis, technical surveillance and coordinated investigation across Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.
