25 September 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : India secured its second gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games as Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet won the mixed team 10m air pistol event in Aichi-Nagoya on Friday.
The Indian pair delivered a composed performance in the final at the Aichi General Shooting Range, finishing with 484.6 points to claim the gold medal. South Korea took silver with 478 points, while Iran won bronze.
India Tops Qualification
Suruchi and Kamaljeet had already established themselves as the leading pair during qualification.
They topped the qualification round with 587-29x, producing series scores of 196, 195 and 196. Their total also set a new Qualification Games Record and equalled the Qualification Asian Record, according to reports.
Strong Start in the Final
The Indian duo maintained their advantage once the medal round began.
They opened Stage 1 with 103.0 points before extending their total to 202.4 and then 303.5. Their consistency allowed them to stay ahead of the South Korean and Iranian combinations as the final progressed.
India continued to lead in Stage 2, reaching 424.9 after 18 shots and carrying a significant advantage into the closing phase of the competition.
South Korea Take Silver
South Korea remained India’s closest challenge during the final, but the Indian pair held their nerve in the decisive stages.
India eventually finished on 484.6, with South Korea taking the silver medal. Iran secured bronze after Indonesia were eliminated earlier in the four-team final.
First Shooting Gold for India at These Games
The victory marked India’s first shooting gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
It also gave India its second gold overall after the women’s cricket team won the country’s first gold of the Games.
A Strong Response After Individual Disappointments
The mixed-team victory was particularly significant for both shooters after they missed out on individual medal opportunities.
Kamaljeet finished ninth in the men’s 10m air pistol qualification, while Suruchi finished 26th in the women’s event. Their mixed-team partnership therefore provided a strong turnaround at the shooting range.
India’s Medal Tally Rises to 19
Following the shooting results, India’s overall medal tally reached 19 medals — two gold, eight silver and nine bronze, according to the latest available tally.
Shooting has been one of India’s important medal-producing sports at the Games, with the country also adding a silver in the men’s 50m rifle three-position team event on the same day.
Day 6 Brings More Medal Opportunities
The shooting success came during a busy Day 6 for the Indian contingent, with athletes competing across shooting, athletics, badminton, hockey, kabaddi, table tennis and other sports.
India’s schedule included several medal and knockout opportunities as the competition continued in Aichi-Nagoya.
