24 September 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das has earned his third International Emmy nomination for his Netflix comedy special Vir Das: Fool Volume, making him the first Indian performer to receive three International Emmy nominations.
The nomination was announced on September 23, with Fool Volume shortlisted in the Comedy category alongside Division Palermo: Season 2, Man v/s Baby and Old Dog, New Tricks.
Vir Das Makes International Emmy History
Das’ latest nomination adds another milestone to his international awards journey.
His first International Emmy nomination came in 2021 for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India. In 2023, he returned with Vir Das: Landing, which won the International Emmy for Comedy, making him the first Indian comedian to win the award in the category.
With Fool Volume, Das has now become the only Indian performer to receive three International Emmy nominations.
The Story Behind Fool Volume
Vir Das: Fool Volume was released on Netflix in July 2025 and was filmed across Mumbai, London and New York.
The special took shape under unusual circumstances after Das lost his voice shortly before filming. He subsequently rewrote the material in silence and performed much of the show without rehearsal.
Das has described the special as a deeply personal exploration of silence, finding one’s voice and what happens when a person chooses to use that voice.
Das Reacts to the Nomination
Reacting to the nomination, Das described the recognition as surreal given the unusual circumstances in which Fool Volume was created.
He also reflected on his earlier Emmy journey, saying For India helped him understand that Indian comedy could find an international audience, while Landing ultimately brought him the Emmy award.
India Gets Two International Emmy Nominations
Vir Das is not India’s only representative at the 2026 International Emmy Awards.
SonyLIV’s ** Real Kashmir Football Club ** has also received a nomination in the Drama Series category. The series, which premiered in December 2025, is inspired by the real-life story of Real Kashmir FC.
The two nominations give Indian entertainment representation across both comedy and drama categories at this year’s awards.
Another Milestone With Netflix
The latest nomination also extends Das’ long association with Netflix.
Fool Volume is his fifth Netflix comedy special and continues a partnership that has helped take his stand-up work to audiences beyond India.
