3 September 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Pakistan leg-spinner Usama Mir has sparked attention with a cryptic social media post amid the turmoil surrounding the country’s Test cricket setup following a disastrous tour of England.
Mir wrote on X that someone had managed to “destroy the entire system” without anyone noticing. He did not name the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), any official or any individual, but the timing of the post led to widespread speculation that it was aimed at Pakistan’s cricket establishment.
‘Destroy the Entire System’ Post
Mir posted: “Amazing how someone managed to destroy the entire system, and nobody even noticed.”
The Pakistan spinner followed it with another pointed message using the Hindi-Urdu proverb “Ab pachhtaye kya, jab chidiya chug gayin khet”, suggesting that regret is of little use once the damage has already been done.
Mir did not explain whom he was referring to, leaving the interpretation of his comments open.
Post Comes After Major PCB Shake-Up
The remarks came shortly after the PCB made sweeping changes to Pakistan’s Test squad and coaching staff following successive defeats against England.
Pakistan lost the opening Test at Headingley by an innings and 103 runs before England won at Lord’s by 194 runs, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series.
Seven Players Sent Home
Following the Lord’s defeat, the PCB recalled seven players from the England tour.
Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad were sent home, with several of them having featured in the second Test.
The move came while the Test series was still underway and prompted considerable criticism from former Pakistan players and coaches.
Coaching Staff Also Overhauled
The PCB also ended the short tenure of Sarfaraz Ahmed as Test head coach and sent bowling coach Umar Gul home.
White-ball head coach Mike Hesson was given charge of the Test side for the final match, with Ashley Noffke joining him as bowling coach.
Seven replacements were also added to the squad, including Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal, along with several players yet to make their Test debuts.
Former Stars Question PCB Decisions
The PCB’s decisions have attracted criticism from several prominent figures in Pakistan cricket.
Former captain Ramiz Raja described the changes as a “panic button” reaction, while former coach Mickey Arthur reportedly called the developments “absolutely ridiculous”.
Former captain Shahid Afridi also questioned the selection decisions, while Misbah-ul-Haq offered his resignation from the national selection committee following the restructuring.
Usama Mir’s Post Adds to the Debate
Mir’s comments have therefore gained traction because they arrived at a time of intense debate over the direction of Pakistan cricket.
His reference to the “entire system” appeared to suggest that the problems went beyond individual player performances or one poor Test series.
