3 September 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau  : Unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at the house of a former policeman on Dhianpur Road in Baba Bakala, with bullets hitting the main gate, a kitchen wall and the parapet of the residence.

The incident took place around 8.50 pm on August 31 while the former policeman’s wife, Harjinder Kaur, was at home with their youngest son, Yadvinder Singh, who is posted with the Ludhiana City Police.

Family Discovers Bullet Marks Next Morning

According to Harjinder Kaur’s complaint, she initially believed the sound of gunfire was coming from the road outside.

However, when the family inspected the house the following morning, they found bullet marks on several parts of the building, including the main gate, kitchen wall and parapet.

Case Registered at Beas Police Station

Following the complaint, police registered a case at Beas police station under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the firing and trying to establish the motive behind the attack.

Police Examine Possible Targeted Attack

The family has alleged that the residence was specifically targeted.

Investigators are examining whether the former policeman’s background had any connection with the incident or whether the firing could have resulted from a personal or criminal dispute.

CCTV Footage Being Examined

Amritsar Rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said CCTV footage from cameras installed around the house was being examined for clues.

Police are using the footage to try to identify the persons responsible and determine the circumstances leading up to the firing. The SSP said the accused would be arrested once they are identified.

Incident Raises Security Concerns

The firing comes amid concerns over targeted attacks involving police personnel in the region.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector was recently killed in a targeted attack in the Majitha area, although police have yet to make a breakthrough in that case. A social media post subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack.

No Injuries Reported

The available report does not mention any injuries in the Baba Bakala firing.

The incident occurred while family members were inside the house, but the bullets reportedly struck the structure rather than causing physical harm to those present.

Investigation Underway

Police are continuing to collect evidence and examine CCTV recordings as they work to establish the identity of the shooters.

The motive remains unclear, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether the incident is connected to the former policeman’s past service or another dispute.
