1 September 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Commercial LPG cylinder prices and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were increased from September 1, adding to costs for restaurants, hotels, businesses and airlines. The changes follow movements in international benchmark prices.
ATF Price Rises by ₹6.28 per Litre
The price of ATF for domestic airlines has been increased by ₹6.28 per litre, or 5.46%, taking it from ₹115 to ₹121.28 per litre.
This is the second consecutive monthly increase in ATF prices. Rates had already risen by ₹5 per litre on August 1.
The increase could add to airline operating costs, with aviation turbine fuel accounting for up to 40% of an airline’s operating expenses.
Commercial LPG Becomes Costlier
The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has increased by ₹9.50, from ₹2,738 to ₹2,747.50.
Prices vary across cities. In Mumbai, the revised price is ₹2,701, while Kolkata has seen a larger increase, with the cylinder now costing ₹2,884.
The price of the 5-kg market-priced LPG cylinder has also increased by ₹2, from ₹762 to ₹764.
Domestic LPG Price Unchanged
There is relief for household consumers as the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged at ₹942.
The latest increase therefore primarily affects commercial establishments such as hotels, restaurants, caterers and other businesses that use larger LPG cylinders.
Hike Comes After Two Monthly Cuts
The commercial LPG increase follows two consecutive monthly reductions.
Prices were cut by ₹183.50 per cylinder on July 1 and by another ₹192 on August 1. The latest revision therefore partly reverses the recent decline in commercial LPG prices.
Commercial LPG prices had surged sharply earlier in the year amid the West Asia crisis, rising by about ₹1,373 per 19-kg cylinder between February and June.
Why LPG and ATF Prices Change
Oil marketing companies revise LPG and ATF prices on the first day of every month, based largely on international benchmark prices and currency movements.
The final LPG price can also differ between states because of local taxes, including VAT.
Impact on Businesses and Airlines
The LPG increase could raise operating expenses for restaurants, hotels and catering businesses, potentially adding pressure to food and service costs.
For airlines, the higher ATF price comes at a time when fuel remains a major component of operating expenses. Sustained increases could put pressure on airline margins and, depending on market conditions, fares.
Petrol and Diesel Prices Unchanged
While ATF and commercial LPG prices were revised, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged.
Domestic LPG prices also remained unchanged, limiting the immediate impact on household cooking-fuel expenses.
Fuel Costs Remain in Focus
The latest revisions highlight the continuing impact of international energy prices on India’s domestic fuel costs.
For consumers, the main relief is that household LPG prices have not changed. However, businesses and airlines face higher input costs from the latest commercial LPG and ATF increases.
