21 Aug 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (TMPV) has announced a price hike of up to ₹25,000 across its passenger vehicle portfolio from September 1, 2026. The increase will apply to both internal-combustion engine (ICE) cars and electric vehicles (EVs).
Price Hike to Vary by Model and Variant
The ₹25,000 increase is the maximum hike, not a flat increase across all Tata vehicles.
The actual revision will vary depending on the model and variant. Tata Motors has said the adjustment has been structured to maintain the overall value proposition of its products.
Why Is Tata Motors Increasing Prices?
Tata Motors said the latest revision is aimed at partially offsetting rising input costs and sustained inflationary pressures.
The automaker said it continues to absorb a significant portion of the cost increases, while passing some of the impact on to customers through the revised prices.
Third Price Hike by Tata Motors in 2026
The September increase will mark the third price hike announced by Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle business this year.
The company had raised prices on its ICE portfolio by an average of 0.5% from April 1. It subsequently announced a hike of up to 1.5% across its ICE and EV portfolio from July 1.
Entire Tata Passenger Vehicle Portfolio Covered
The latest revision will cover Tata Motors’ full range of passenger vehicles, including cars and SUVs powered by both ICE and electric powertrains.
The exact impact on buyers will depend on the vehicle and variant selected.
Tata Motors Faces Rising Cost Pressure
The price increase comes amid continuing pressure from higher commodity and manufacturing costs.
Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle business has indicated that commodity inflation is putting pressure on margins, making calibrated price increases and cost-control measures important for protecting profitability.
Other Carmakers Also Raising Prices
Tata Motors is not the only major automaker increasing prices in India.
Maruti Suzuki has announced price increases of up to ₹30,000, while Hyundai Motor India has said it will raise prices by up to 1% from September. The moves reflect broader cost pressures across India’s automobile industry.
What It Means for Car Buyers
Customers planning to purchase a Tata car or SUV may face higher ex-showroom prices from September 1.
However, Tata Motors has offered various discounts and benefits in August, meaning buyers could potentially compare the current offers with the post-hike prices before making a purchase decision.
Tata Motors’ July Sales Also Under Pressure
The price announcement comes at a time when Tata Motors is dealing with softer passenger vehicle demand.
The company sold 45,199 passenger vehicles in India in July, compared with 50,701 units a year earlier, marking an 11% decline.
Impact on Tata Motors’ Financial Performance
The company also reported pressure on profitability in the June quarter.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported a sharp 80.25% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to ₹775 crore in Q1 FY27, while revenue from operations increased 9.26% to ₹95,799 crore.
What Happens Next?
The revised prices will take effect on September 1, 2026. Tata Motors is expected to provide model- and variant-specific pricing details closer to implementation.
For buyers, the key point is that not every Tata vehicle will become ₹25,000 more expensive; the actual increase will depend on the selected model and variant.
