14 Aug 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal underwent a 90-minute surgery in Nanded after suffering injuries in a suspected kirpan attack at a gurdwara. Doctors said he is stable and out of danger.
Tendon and Artery Injury Repaired
Doctors successfully repaired a tendon injury and an injury involving the ulnar artery and nerve in Badal’s hand. The procedure lasted about an hour and a half.
Likely to Return to Punjab
Badal is expected to be discharged from the Nanded hospital today and is likely to be flown back to Punjab in the afternoon, according to officials.
Attack at Nanded Gurdwara
The attack took place on Thursday at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji near Nanded. Police said a sevadar allegedly approached Badal and attempted to attack him with a sharp weapon. Security personnel intervened and the attacker was taken into custody.
Motive Under Investigation
The accused has been identified as Jaspal Singh, who had reportedly been working as a sewadar at the gurdwara. Police are investigating the motive behind the attack
