24 july 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau : Liam Livingstone’s outstanding all-round performance was not enough to prevent London Spirit from suffering a seven-run defeat against Manchester Super Giants at Lord’s in The Hundred.
Livingstone starred with both bat and ball, taking 2 wickets for 14 runs before scoring a brilliant 69 off 40 balls in the chase. However, his individual heroics ultimately fell short as Manchester Super Giants held their nerve in a thrilling finish.
Tim Seifert Leads Super Giants’ Innings
Batting first, Manchester Super Giants posted 138 for 9.
New Zealand batter Tim Seifert was the standout performer for the visitors, scoring 67 off 45 balls. His innings provided the foundation for a competitive total on a challenging Lord’s surface.
The Super Giants appeared to be heading towards a bigger score at one stage but lost wickets during the final phase of the innings. Despite the late collapse, Seifert’s contribution ensured that the team had a total they could defend.
Livingstone Keeps London Spirit in the Hunt
London Spirit’s chase got off to a difficult start, but Livingstone kept his team in contention with a powerful innings.
The Spirit captain struck 69 runs from 40 deliveries, including five sixes, and carried much of the responsibility during the chase. His innings gave London Spirit hope of pulling off a remarkable comeback.
Livingstone had also made an impact with the ball, bowling 20 of the final 25 deliveries of the Super Giants’ innings and finishing with two wickets for just 14 runs.
Super Giants Hold Their Nerve at the Death
London Spirit eventually finished on 131 for 6, falling seven runs short of the target.
The match remained in the balance deep into the chase, but Manchester Super Giants’ bowlers managed to execute their plans in the closing stages. Gus Atkinson and Sonny Baker played important roles in defending the total, with both taking two wickets.
Livingstone was eventually dismissed by Sonny Baker, ending the Spirit captain’s hopes of completing a memorable match-winning all-round performance.
A Narrow Defeat for London Spirit
The result was a frustrating start for London Spirit, who had entered a new era with fresh ownership, coaching and players.
