17 july 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau  :  Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) can be beneficial for men with clinically confirmed testosterone deficiency, but its safety in people with prostate complications depends on the specific condition, symptoms, cancer risk and medical history.

TRT and Prostate Cancer

Testosterone therapy is generally not recommended for men with untreated or suspected prostate cancer. Doctors typically evaluate prostate health before starting TRT, particularly in men with symptoms or risk factors.

What About Enlarged Prostate?

Men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) may sometimes be considered for TRT, but the treatment requires careful medical supervision. Testosterone therapy can potentially affect urinary symptoms in some patients.

Monitoring Is Important

Before and during TRT, doctors may assess:

  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels
  • Prostate health
  • Urinary symptoms
  • Testosterone levels
  • Blood counts and other relevant health markers

Any significant changes may require further evaluation or adjustment of treatment.

The Bottom Line

TRT should not be started without a proper medical evaluation, particularly when a patient has prostate-related complications. The treatment may be appropriate for some men with prostate conditions but could be unsuitable for others.

A urologist or endocrinologist should assess the risks and benefits on an individual basis. Never start, stop or change testosterone medication without consulting a qualified healthcare professional.
