6 july 2026 Punjab Khabarnama Bureau  :  The Indian cricket team is expected to make a key tactical change ahead of the third T20 International against England, with leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi likely to be left out in favour of an additional fast bowler. The move comes after Bishnoi endured a difficult outing in the second T20I, where he struggled with both discipline and economy, prompting the team management to rethink its bowling combination.

India’s think tank is reportedly considering strengthening the pace attack to better exploit the conditions expected for the third match. With England’s batting lineup known for its aggressive approach, an extra seamer could provide greater control during the powerplay and death overs.

Bishnoi’s Difficult Outing

Bishnoi had one of the toughest matches of his international career in the second T20I. The leg-spinner became the first spinner from a full-member nation to bowl three no-balls in a T20 International, an unwanted record that significantly affected India’s chances. His expensive spell allowed England to regain momentum during the chase.

Apart from the no-balls, Bishnoi also conceded crucial boundaries in the closing stages, making it difficult for India to defend a competitive total.

India Looking for Better Balance

The team management believes adding another specialist pacer could provide better balance, especially if the pitch offers assistance to fast bowlers. India already have quality spin options in Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel, allowing them to reduce one spinner without significantly weakening the bowling attack.

An extra seamer would also give captain Shreyas Iyer greater flexibility in rotating bowlers during different phases of the innings.

Pace Attack Could Be Strengthened

India are expected to continue with Arshdeep Singh, while another pace option could be drafted into the playing XI to support the attack. The decision will largely depend on the final assessment of pitch conditions and weather before the toss.

The management is keen to ensure the bowling unit can effectively counter England’s powerful batting order, particularly after the visitors successfully chased down India’s target in the previous game.

Series at a Crucial Stage

The third T20I has become an important contest in the series after England bounced back with victory in the second match. Both teams are expected to field their strongest possible combinations as they look to gain the upper hand heading into the remaining matches.

India’s batting unit showed promise despite the defeat, with useful contributions from the top order. However, the bowling department will be under pressure to deliver a more disciplined performance.

Final Decision at Toss

While no official confirmation has been made, indications suggest Bishnoi is the leading candidate to make way for an additional fast bowler. The final playing XI will be announced at the toss, depending on pitch conditions and team strategy.

If the change is implemented, India will hope the revised bowling combination can provide greater control and help level the series with an improved all-round performance.
