Barnala, 27 March 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): Deputy Commissioner of Barnala, Shri T. Benith, has appealed to the district residents to follow the government-issued guidelines to protect themselves from the rising heat.

He advised people to avoid going out in direct sunlight between 12 PM and 3 PM. According to the advisory issued by the Health Department, newborn babies, young children, pregnant women, individuals aged 65 years and above, laborers, people suffering from obesity, mental illness, and heart diseases should take extra precautions to avoid excessive heat exposure.

He further recommended wearing light-colored, full-body covering cotton clothes while working outdoors. To protect the head from direct sunlight, one should use an umbrella, cap, towel, turban, or scarf, and avoid walking barefoot in the sun.

He also encouraged the increased consumption of seasonal fruits and vegetables such as watermelon, muskmelon, grapes, cucumber, tomatoes, bottle gourd, and ridge gourd, as they contain high water content. Additionally, ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), lemon water, buttermilk, coconut water, and other fluids should be consumed frequently during this season.

He advised against cooking during peak heat hours and suggested keeping kitchen areas well-ventilated by keeping doors and windows open. The use of cigarettes, tobacco, beedis, and alcohol should be avoided. He also recommended limiting tea and coffee intake, avoiding fried and outside food, and ensuring that children and pets are not left inside closed vehicles.
