Chandigarh7 march 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau):With the aim of making Sahibzada Ajit Nagar (Mohali) a safer and crime-free city, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today inaugurated the first phase of the City Surveillance and Traffic Management Project, developed at a cost of ₹21.60 crore.

The Chief Minister said that this project is an important step towards strengthening urban surveillance and traffic management. He stated that this state-of-the-art system, equipped with advanced AI-based surveillance and traffic monitoring systems, aims to enhance public safety, prevent traffic violations, and ensure effective law enforcement. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this project, costing ₹21.60 crore, will integrate 351 high-resolution CCTV cameras installed at 17 key locations in Mohali with the Integrated Command and Control Center located in Sector 79, Mohali, ensuring continuous surveillance.

The Chief Minister mentioned that the system, designed to streamline traffic management, increase public safety, and further advance law enforcement efforts, includes 175 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, 50 Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) cameras, 92 bullet cameras for general surveillance, 18 PTZ (Pan, Tilt, and Zoom) cameras for greater vigilance, and 16 speed violation detection systems at two major locations. Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted that the key feature of this initiative is the implementation of an automated e-challan system, which will be integrated with the NIC’s vehicle and Sarathi databases.

The Chief Minister explained that under this project, e-challans will be automatically generated for violations such as red-light jumping, overspeeding, triple riding, wrong-side driving, riding without helmets, and stop-line/zebra crossing violations. He added that the system will issue an average of 5,000 to 6,000 challans daily, significantly improving traffic law enforcement and compliance. After the successful implementation of the first phase, the Punjab government is planning the second phase of the project, which will cover other areas across the district to further expand the city’s surveillance network.

The Chief Minister emphasized that this project focuses on equipping key strategic locations with advanced CCTV surveillance, adaptive traffic control systems (ATCS) at major traffic junctions, and AI-powered systems with vehicle-operated control (VOC). Additionally, smart traffic lights will be introduced, which will adjust to real-time traffic flow to reduce congestion. Integrated traffic corridors will also be created to ensure smooth movement between Mohali, Kharar, Zirakpur, and Derabassi.

The Chief Minister stated that the ICCC project is a significant milestone in urban safety and smart traffic management. Considering Mohali’s rapid expansion as a commercial, IT, and residential hub, this initiative will play a crucial role in maintaining law and order, ensuring smooth traffic flow, and enhancing public safety. Bhagwant Singh Mann assured that the Punjab government is committed to using cutting-edge technology to create safe and smart cities, setting new standards in urban administration and security.

Summary: The Chief Minister has inaugurated the first phase of Mohali’s surveillance and traffic management project, aiming to enhance city safety and infrastructure.
