Chandigarh, January 27, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): After a few days of relief from the cold in Punjab, the weather is once again starting to change. The temperature is continuously dropping. The department has issued a yellow alert for a cold wave today, meaning that the cold wave will persist in several parts of the state for the next 24 hours. However, there is no further cold wave warning after that, though continuous rainfall is expected for two days at the end of the month.

According to the weather department, a cold wave warning has been issued for 13 districts of the state, including Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, and Bathinda. This means that today, only the Doaba and Majha regions are under a cold wave warning, while no warning has been issued for the Malwa region. The weather is expected to remain clear in the coming days. Similarly, no alert has been issued for the cold wave in Pathankot or Majha.

According to the weather department, a new western disturbance will become active from January 29, which could bring rain to several parts of Punjab on January 30-31. The department has predicted rainfall in the Majha and Doaba regions. Rain is expected in places like Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Tarn Taran on January 30 and 31. However, no rain is expected in the Malwa region, and the weather is expected to remain dry throughout the week.

Cold to Increase with Snowfall in Hilly Areas

On the other hand, the effect of the active western disturbance will also be felt in the hilly areas of Himachal, where rain and snowfall are expected. This will impact the weather in Punjab as well, with cold winds from the hilly areas causing a further drop in temperature. Additionally, rainfall is expected in Punjab on January 30 and 31.
