Chhattisgarh, January 10, 2025 (Punjab Khabarnama Bureau): In Chhattisgarh’s Mungeli district, a silo collapsed at a steel plant on Thursday, injuring several workers and trapping others. The area is in panic. Police teams arrived at the scene. Mungeli’s Superintendent of Police, Bhojram Patel, stated the incident occurred in the Saragaon area of the district around noon.

The officials stated that, according to initial reports, the silo—a large iron structure used for storing materials—collapsed, trapping some workers present at the site. After receiving the information, the police arrived and began rescue operations. So far, two injured workers have been rescued and admitted to a hospital in Bilaspur. Authorities mentioned that several other workers might be trapped under the collapsed structure, and efforts are underway to rescue them.

The Kusum Smelter factory, which produces iron rods, employs around 700 workers. The accident occurred due to a chimney collapse. Police report that 25 workers are trapped, and 4 have died. Many are still believed to be trapped under the debris. The collector is on-site, and rescue operations are ongoing. According to SP Bhojram Patel, part of the chimney and silo collapsed, trapping several employees. Rescue teams from all departments are at the scene, with an ongoing risk of fire. Two injured workers have been sent to Bilaspur for treatment.

Chhattisgarh Minister Lakhan Lal Devangan commented on the incident of a chimney and silo collapse at the smelting plant in Mungeli, saying, “We don’t have complete data yet, but we have information that 5-6 workers are trapped. The district administration team, police, and rescue department officials have reached the site, and rescue operations are ongoing. Strict action will be taken if any negligence is found.”
