10 october 2024 : Amazon is adding Apple TV’s streaming service to its Channels store in the U.S., marking the first time shows like Ted Lasso and Slow Horses will be available on Amazon’s platform. Starting later this month, Apple TV subscriptions will be available through Prime Video.
Mike Hopkins, Senior VP of Amazon Prime Video, emphasized the advantage of offering Apple TV’s content to Amazon’s massive global audience of Prime subscribers, describing it as a valuable platform for channel partners.
Amazon already offers over 100 streaming services through its Channels store, including Max, Paramount, and Hallmark, allowing these services to reach Prime Video users. Previously, Apple TV was one of the few major streaming services absent from Amazon’s store, alongside Netflix and Disney’s flagship services.
Despite heavy investment in original programming, Apple TV’s subscriber count still trails behind Netflix and Amazon. However, this move strengthens an ongoing collaboration between Amazon and Apple, which began in 2017 when Amazon’s Prime Video app became available on Apple TV.
Hopkins also forecasted further consolidation in the media industry, expressing confidence that Prime Video will soon become profitable.
Additionally, Cristobal Valenzuela from AI startup Runway demonstrated technology that allows for lifelike rendering of movie and TV content, reassuring that AI advancements shouldn’t be feared by creatives, as the focus remains on storytelling.
