8 october 2024 : The festive season is here, and as people celebrate Navratri with family and friends, many indulge in rich, festive foods. While it’s important to enjoy the celebrations, it’s equally crucial to care for your health by detoxing after the overindulgence.
Akshata Chavan, a clinical dietitian at Wockhardt Hospitals in Mumbai, advises that detoxing is a great way to bring the body back into balance after festive feasts. Here are some tips she shares for a healthy post-festival detox:
Rest and Sleep
Adequate rest and sleep are essential for recovery. Sleep allows the body to repair and rejuvenate after the excesses of the festive season.
Hydrate
Water is vital for flushing out toxins. Aim for 8-10 glasses a day. Adding lemon or apple cider vinegar can boost digestion and support liver health.
Eat Whole Foods
Opt for nutrient-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Leafy greens like spinach, kale, and broccoli are excellent for supporting detoxification and digestion.
Cut Back on Sugar and Processed Foods
After indulging, reduce your intake of added sugars and processed foods to avoid inflammation and promote detox. Natural sugars from fruits are a healthier alternative.
Increase Fiber Intake
Fiber-rich foods like oats, chia seeds, lentils, and beans help regulate digestion, bind to toxins, and aid their elimination.
Get Moving
Light physical activity, such as walking or yoga, can enhance circulation, improve digestion, and help the body release toxins through sweat.
