October 7, 2024: People who were affected by COVID-19 three to four years ago are now facing difficulties with seasonal fevers, particularly those with a CT score of 16 or higher. They are experiencing issues such as cough, cold, and breathing difficulties. These patients are taking longer to recover compared to the general population.
In recent weeks, there has been a surge of patients with viral infections visiting both public and private hospitals in urban and rural areas. Among these patients are individuals who contracted COVID-19 three to four years ago, with 10 to 20 new patients arriving daily. Approximately 50% of these patients are aged between 40 and 45.
On Monday, a 42-year-old employee named Sanjay reported to the district hospital’s outpatient department (OPD) with persistent cough and breathing difficulties that he has been experiencing for the past month. He informed the doctors that he was infected with COVID-19 three and a half years ago. Similarly, a 55-year-old woman named Rani also contracted COVID-19 three and a half years ago and took almost two weeks to recover.
Public health expert Dr. Ramit Kumar Singh stated that the medical history of patients experiencing long-term breathing difficulties, cough with phlegm, and other related symptoms is being investigated. It is becoming evident that these patients may have faced further complications after being affected by COVID-19.
Physician Dr. Mudhit Gupta emphasized the need for everyone to remain cautious regarding viral infections. A small lapse in vigilance can lead to significant consequences. Those who have recovered from COVID-19 should be especially vigilant. Patients visiting the OPD have reported chest-related issues stemming from their viral infections, including young individuals. They may have recovered from COVID-19, but the damage to their lungs still persists. Therefore, if you experience any symptoms, it is crucial to consult a doctor.
