October 1, 2024: Stress can completely change a person. It has a significant negative impact on your health. The workplace environment should ideally be supportive, but if it’s hostile, you will experience considerable pressure, leading to prolonged stress that can affect you both physically and mentally. This is what happened to a 24-year-old woman in China.

According to a report from TOI News referencing Chinese media, this woman in Guangdong faced so many job-related difficulties that her weight increased by 20 kilos in just one year. Sharing her experience on social media, Wenzheng stated that her job became detrimental to her well-being, causing her to feel mentally and physically exhausted. Currently weighing 80 kilos, her excessive workload contributed to her weight gain.

Why Does Weight Increase Due to Overworking?
Excessive pressure from work leads to weight gain because stress causes your weight to increase. Long hours at the office undoubtedly contribute to stress. In today’s work environment, many people find themselves in such situations. This leaves little time for physical activity, and individuals often skip meals or eat at irregular times. Consequently, many start consuming takeout food, which often includes fast food, junk food, processed food, and packaged snacks, leading to sudden weight gain.

How to Manage Work Stress to Prevent Weight Gain
To avoid gaining weight due to job stress, a comprehensive strategy is essential. First, acknowledge that many people experience overwhelming pressure in today’s office environments. One way to manage this stress is by maintaining a comfortable relationship with management. Ensure you meet your boss’s expectations.

Develop a smart approach to work and avoid negligence in any task. In addition to these strategies, try various methods to remain physically fit and reduce stress. Always allocate time for exercise, regardless of how much time you spend at the office.

Aim for at least 150 minutes of exercise each week. If you can’t go to the gym, workout at home. Many exercises can be performed at home. Make sure to walk briskly for at least 10 to 15 minutes regularly. If possible, run or ride a bike. Breathing exercises, stretching, and skipping rope can also be done at home. Additionally, consider regular yoga and meditation to relieve stress. Use the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible.

After incorporating physical activity, improve your eating habits to make them healthier. Avoid eating out as much as possible. Opt for fresh home-cooked meals. Consume leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits daily. Eat whole grains like rice, pulses, porridge, oats, and foods made from coarse grains. Include some dried fruits and seeds in your diet as well.

Certain seeds can be beneficial when soaked and consumed. Additionally, include chickpeas, mung beans, peanuts, and almonds in your meals.
