9 september 2024 : Jannik Sinner claimed the US Open 2024 title, becoming the first Italian man to do so, with a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Taylor Fritz on Sunday. After his win, Sinner celebrated with the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd.

Despite Sinner’s achievement in securing his second Grand Slam title, many fans criticized the match for being lackluster. One fan shared contrasting images from the Wimbledon 2024 final, featuring Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, alongside the Sinner-Fritz match, commenting, “Name a bigger downgrade than this I’ll wait.”

Another fan expressed disappointment, noting, “That was a fairly dull men’s final, only briefly coming to life when it looked like Fritz might take the third set. Congrats to Sinner, I guess. Hurry up, Australian Open.”

A different fan felt that Fritz was largely ineffective, saying, “It’s a joke…. Fritz served well in the second set, but he’s basically a spectator. Terribly sad and disappointing. Sinner’s game, though brilliant, is completely dull. Jack Draper was far more challenging.”

The final also marked a redemption moment for Sinner, who faced a doping controversy earlier in the tournament. He tested positive twice for an anabolic agent in March but avoided a ban after an independent tribunal accepted his explanation of unintentional contamination.

Sinner finishes the year with a 55-5 win-loss record and earlier won the Australian Open in 2024.
