HAU Organized a seminar on the topic ‘Scientist – Farmer Dialogue regarding Achievements of Agricultural University’

Chandigarh, March 30 (punjabkhabarnama) : Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University organized a seminar on the topic ‘Agricultural Scientist – Farmer Dialogue regarding Achievements of Agricultural University’. In the seminar, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. B.R. Kamboj acted as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by Former Chairman, HSHEC, Panchkula and former Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal and Chairman, Panchnad Research Institute, Chandigarh. The special guest was Jagjit Singh Ghanghas, former chairman of Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission. This seminar was organized under the aegis of Panchnad Research Institute & Study Centre and CCSHAU Hisar.

Prof. B.R. Kamboj said that due to the continuous research work done by the scientists of Agricultural University, high technologies and hard work of the farmers, there has been a record increase in the food grain production of the state. Food grain production, which was only 2.59 million tonnes at the time of formation of the state, has increased 7 times to 18.43 million tonnes in the year 2022-23. Haryana state is smaller than other states in terms of area, whereas it is the second largest state contributing to the central food grains stock. More than 60 percent of the country’s Basmati rice is exported from Haryana only. He said that the university is preparing and distributing more than 20 thousand quintals of seeds of different crops to the farmers annually. One of the aims of the university is to bring agricultural technology to the farmers, in this context the university is regularly providing information related to weather forecast and agriculture updates to 6.50 lakh farmers. Apart from this, a data base of 20 farmers from each village of the state has been collected through which agricultural information is being provided.

Prof. Brij Kishore Kuthiala said in his presidential speech that Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University will play an important role in the mission of developed India. Along with establishing dialogue with farmers and youth, he also called for attracting farmers towards agriculture sector and to make agriculture attractive, there is a need for social, economic and psychological change among the youth. It is a matter of great joy that by directly connecting with the farmers, CCSHAU is not only providing new technologies and varieties to the farmers but is also giving impetus to its research on the basis of feedback on the problems of the farmers. He said that Panchnad will give more momentum to the campaign of starting dialogue with farmers through CCSHAU. He stressed on the balanced use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in the agricultural sector.

Special guest Jagjit Singh Ghanghas said that agriculture and power sector are very important for the progress of the nation. Apart from providing cheap electricity to the consumers in the state for the last 10 years, electricity is also being provided to the agricultural sector at the rate of 10 paise per unit. He said that about 13 thousand pending agricultural tube wells have also been connected to electricity. Farmers are also being motivated to do irrigation through solar pumps.

Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Dean and Vice President of the College of Basic Sciences & Humanities, thanked everyone who attended the seminar. Mohit Kumar conducted the stage.
