Chandigarh, March 13, 2024 (Punjab khabarnama): The Punjab Animal Husbandry Department has covered almost 50 percent of the cattle under the ongoing mass vaccination drive against Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in just 17 days. LSD is a viral and infectious disease that causes fever and skin lumps and can be fatal.Notably, this campaign was launched on February 25, under which goat pox vaccination is being repeated for the third time as a booster dose to protect the cattle from this deadly disease.Disclosing this here today, Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuriyan said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann has set a target of vaccinating all 25 lakh cattle of the state under this mega campaign. Is kept. He said that the department has already vaccinated 12,49,779 cattle in the state.The Cabinet Minister directed the officials of the department to further intensify the drive to achieve 100 per cent vaccination of 25 lakh cattle against Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in the state by April 16. He informed that there are 837 dedicated veterinary teams of animal husbandry. The department has been deployed to the region with a target of administering 60,000 vaccine doses per day.Gurmeet Singh Khudian said the state has procured 25 lakh doses of goat pox vaccine at a cost of Rs 78.75 lakh from the Telangana State Veterinary Biological and Research Institute, Hyderabad, to inoculate cattle as a preventive measure against lumpy skin disease. .
